Design Festa is a long-running event that began in 1994. Its core concept is to provide “a place for free expression.” As long as the work is original, anyone can participate without screening. The venue uses Tokyo Big Sight (West & South Halls), one of Japan’s largest exhibition centers, and its convenient access draws visitors from across Japan and overseas. Hours are 10:00 to 18:00 on both days. The number of booths is about 6,500 per day, with a total of over 6,500 across the two days—making it one of the largest events of its kind in Asia.

A spectrum of expression across the venue

Design Festa offers seven exhibiting formats so visitors can enjoy a wide variety of art experiences.

Bright Booths and Dark Booths

At the heart of the event, the Bright Booths area features a wide range of genres—illustration, accessories, fashion, interior goods, and more—where works by about 6,500 artist groups from around the world are displayed and sold on the spot. It’s a special chance to acquire pieces while hearing directly from the creators. By contrast, the Dark Booths area is a distinctive zone rarely seen at similar events, with the venue deliberately darkened. Presentations that use light—such as lighting and candles—and video works gather here, leveraging darkness to powerful effect and creating an immersive atmosphere that draws visitors into each work’s world.

Interactive art and performances

In the Workshop Area, where visitors can enjoy hands-on creation, you can experience activities such as painting, crafting, and making accessories together with artists. The Live Painting Area, a particular highlight of Design Festa, lets you witness artworks taking shape in real time on giant canvases—an experience whose impact is truly stirring. In addition, the Show Stage features fashion shows, dance, and singing, while the Performance Area (rooftop and indoor) offers a variety of expressions including acoustic music and theater. There is also the One Coin Runway (¥500), which allows visitors to casually join on the day and walk the runway in their favorite outfits.

The appeal of the Food Area that colors the art

In the Food Area, where you can take a breather while enjoying the art, well-known eateries and food creators gather to offer original menus and carefully crafted dishes rarely found at other events.

An art festival where freedom of expression and creativity intersect

Design Festa vol.62 is one of Asia’s largest “places of expression,” held at Tokyo Big Sight on November 15 and 16, 2025. Across more than 6,500 booths, distinctive artworks and goods are exhibited and sold; the Live Painting area lets you watch works come to life before your eyes; stages feature fashion shows; and the Food Area offers a wide array of original menus—the entire venue brims with creativity. This festival, where the “freedom to express” is respected for artists regardless of professional status, age, or genre, provides opportunities to encounter talents and diverse values you have not yet met. Why not visit the venue and feel the excitement for yourself?
