HANNOVER MESSE 2026: Event Overview and Highlights — One of the World’s Largest Industrial Trade Fairs for Manufacturing, Held April 20–24 in Germany
HANNOVER MESSE is one of the world’s largest trade fairs dedicated to industrial technology. It is held at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds in Germany and typically brings together around 4,000 exhibiting companies and approximately 123,000 visitors over five days.
The 2025 edition concluded under the theme “Tailwind for Industry,” emphasizing momentum and resilience within the manufacturing sector. This article outlines the key features and anticipated highlights of the 2026 edition, which will introduce a renewed exhibition structure.
All photographs shown were taken during the 2025 event.

What Is HANNOVER MESSE?
A Global Industrial Technology Trade Fair Held Since 1947
The history of HANNOVER MESSE dates back to 1947, shortly after the end of the Second World War. It was first held as the “Hannover Export Fair 1947” as part of Germany’s economic reconstruction efforts.
During the 21-day exhibition period of its inaugural edition, approximately 736,000 visitors from 53 countries traveled to Hanover. Numerous export contracts were concluded, and the event was widely regarded as a success. Following this outcome, the fair became an annual event, and Hanover developed into a major host city for large-scale exhibitions.
By the early 1960s, the city was attracting more than 1 million visitors per year, reflecting its growing prominence as an international trade fair destination.

In 2025, approximately 4,000 companies from 60 countries exhibited at HANNOVER MESSE, presenting more than 10,000 products and solutions. The event welcomed around 123,000 on-site visitors from over 150 countries. Participants from outside Germany accounted for roughly 40% of total attendance.

From Japan, approximately 40 companies and organizations participated, including local subsidiaries and joint exhibition formats. Exhibitors included major firms such as FANUC, Yaskawa Electric, Keyence, OMRON, Sumitomo Electric Industries, THK, Mitutoyo, Sony Semiconductor Solutions, Asahi Seiko, Anest Iwata, and NTT DATA.

Revised Thematic Structure of the Exhibition
The hall plan has been significantly reorganized. The previous seven-theme structure has been consolidated into three pillars that classify the technologies driving industrial transformation.

1. Automation & Digitalization
This pillar covers industrial AI, robotics, and IT/OT security. A focal point will be the “AI in Manufacturing” area, which will examine how generative AI and autonomous agent-based systems can contribute to productivity improvements on the factory floor.
A new “Defense Production Area” will also be introduced. In response to shifting geopolitical conditions and growing emphasis on security and industrial resilience, this area has been established in cooperation with DSEI Germany. Themes will include automation technologies, digitalization processes, and supply chain resilience required for the production of security-related equipment.

2. Energy & Industrial Infrastructure
This section focuses on energy supply and infrastructure. Topics include cost-efficient and sustainable energy systems, hydrogen technologies, and power engineering. The area aims to address the balance between industrial demand, decarbonization goals, and energy security.

3. Research & Technology Transfer
Major research institutions and universities, along with more than 300 startup companies, are expected to participate. The focus will be on how next-generation technologies such as quantum technologies, advanced materials, and bionics can be transferred into practical industrial applications.
Pitch events and networking opportunities are planned to facilitate connections between startups, established industrial leaders, and investors.
Four Key Highlights for 2026
Partner Country: Brazil, a Major Player in Green Energy
HANNOVER MESSE designates a partner country each year. In 2026, Brazil will assume this role. As the largest economy in Latin America, Brazil generates more than 80% of its electricity from renewable sources and is often cited as a leading country in green energy.
The 2026 edition is expected to showcase Brazil’s position as a driver of industrial transformation that integrates digitalization and decarbonization, highlighting opportunities for collaboration in sustainable industry.

Theme: “THINK TECH FORWARD” — Advancing Toward Solutions
The official theme for 2026, “THINK TECH FORWARD,” reflects a forward-looking approach to building sustainable and future-oriented production systems. The industrial sector faces multiple challenges, including the application of artificial intelligence, digitalization of production processes, and energy transition in response to climate change.
The theme emphasizes proactive technological intervention as a means of identifying practical solutions to these challenges.

Advancements in AI and Humanoid Robotics
Industrial AI and generative AI will remain central topics. In addition, the 2026 edition is expected to place increased focus on humanoid robotics. Demonstrations and discussions will explore how human-like robots may contribute to addressing labor shortages and replacing workers in hazardous environments.
The exhibition will examine both the potential applications and the operational challenges associated with deploying humanoid robots in manufacturing settings.

“Solution Labs” and “Center Stage”: Programs Designed for Deeper Engagement
In addition to the traditional exhibition format, new programs are being introduced to facilitate more substantive interaction among participants.
“Solution Labs” will be established within each exhibition area. These spaces are designed to enable visitors and exhibitors to engage in focused discussions on specific challenges. Three formats are offered to accommodate different needs: Masterclasses, Roundtables, and Speed Dating.

The “Masterclass” format consists of 60-minute sessions combining lectures and workshops. Industry experts will present case studies and practical knowledge, followed by opportunities for questions and discussion.
“Roundtables” are small-group discussion sessions involving approximately six to ten participants. These sessions provide a setting for open exchange on industry-specific issues and emerging challenges. The format is intended to encourage candid dialogue and the development of new perspectives and professional connections.
“Speed Dating” sessions aim to match participants efficiently within a limited timeframe. Visitors and exhibitors with shared interests in specific topics engage in seven-minute conversations. As discussion themes are defined in advance, the format is designed to reduce mismatches and facilitate targeted business connections. Similar formats have been adopted at startup events in various countries.

In Hall 24, a newly established “Center Stage” will serve as a central forum for dialogue among leaders from business, politics, and science. Over the five-day event, different key themes will be addressed each day, positioning the stage as a focal point for information exchange and high-level discussion.
Daily Themes at “Center Stage”
- Monday: AI in Industry
- Tuesday: Transformation in the Automotive Industry; Security, Defense, and Industrial Transformation
- Wednesday: Next-Generation Energy; Humanoid Robotics
- Thursday: Best Practices in AI and Automation; Startup Innovation
- Friday: Technology and Talent
