A History of Industrial Transformation Alongside Advances in Digital Technology

Throughout its history, CEATEC has evolved alongside advances in digital technology and played a role in changing industries and society. Kiyoshi Kano, CEATEC’s executive producer, reflected on how the exhibition has developed as a place that follows technological progress and helps drive change.

One recent example was CEATEC’s first joint staging in 2024 with Japan Mobility Show Bizweek, organized by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association. The initiative successfully connected the previously separate fields of digital technology and mobility to generate collaboration across industries.

At the 2025 exhibition, the Digital Ocean Society Pavilion made its debut with a focus on smart fisheries and monitoring the marine environment. Twelve companies and organizations exhibited. Technology displays and conferences addressed three areas of change: tasks, cultivation methods and ways of working. Government representatives, including the minister for digital transformation and a state minister of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, visited alongside attendees from 13 countries and regions, including Taiwan and parts of Europe. The pavilion thus left a clear mark as a place for international co-creation. Building on these achievements, CEATEC continues to pursue practical initiatives aimed at applying technology in society.

New Initiatives for 2026: Mobility Collaboration and Expanded Marine Digital Technologies

A major feature of this year’s event is its second concurrent staging with Japan Mobility Show Bizweek 2026, following the first in 2024. The mobility event aims to generate business collaboration among a range of companies, including those in the automotive industry, and next-generation startups. It will take place in Halls 2 and 3 of Makuhari Messe on the same dates as CEATEC.

Yoichi Miyazaki, chair of the Mobility Show Committee of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, explained that organizers are considering ways to promote collaboration involving multiple companies rather than only pairs of companies, as well as an “acceleration program” tailored to different stages of business development. Deeper ties between digital technology and mobility are seen as an opportunity to encourage collaboration across a wider range of industries.

CEATEC 2026

The Digital Ocean Society Pavilion will expand in both scale and content following last year’s event. It will introduce developments in marine business, including smart fisheries, aquaculture, solutions to environmental problems, food security, renewable energy and underwater robots. Confirmed private-sector participants include ISE Co., Ltd., the ALAN Consortium, Fujitsu Limited, Robotics Sailing Lab Co., Ltd., the Japan Underwater Drone Association and the Marine Open Innovation Institute. Government bodies including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Fisheries Agency will cooperate; participation by the Cabinet Office’s Secretariat of the Headquarters for Ocean Policy is still being coordinated. Educational and research organizations, including the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), will also cooperate.

CEATEC 2026

The pavilion will launch “Blue-Shrimp Summit.,” a program for developing next-generation leaders. It is organized and operated by artTunes, a startup advocating the application of art in society, with JAMSTEC’s Ocean STEAM Promotion Section cooperating as a partner. Under the theme “What kind of ocean will we pass on to the next generation?”, teams of three students will formulate questions about the ocean’s future, examine its underlying structures, identify value and develop concrete proposals for society. The program seeks to develop leaders who can understand the ocean in depth and connect it with society through academic, business and creative perspectives.

Conference Discussions and Advance Registration

Speakers will discuss a range of subjects throughout the event at the conference held in Makuhari Messe’s International Conference Hall. The discussions are organized around five main themes.

“Social Challenges to be solved” addresses climate change, labor shortages, the declining birthrate and aging population, energy and health care. “Vision for the future” covers mobility, smart cities, space and life sciences. “Pursuing technology” focuses on the development of generative AI, semiconductors, next-generation communications and data cloud technologies. “the Global Trends” examines overseas policies, security and geopolitics. “With the Next Generation gamechangers” supports startups, young researchers and students.

CEATEC AWARD 2026 will also recognize exhibits judged to demonstrate the highest levels of innovation. Ministerial awards and excellence awards are scheduled to be presented.

According to the event schedule, advance visitor registration and reservations for conference sessions were to open at 10 a.m. on August 27, 2026. Online sessions were scheduled to become available from September 15 and remain viewable through October 30.

SHARP

Sharp: Technologies Supporting Daily Life During Disasters, From Water-Reusing Laundry to Communications

Sharp will exhibit seven technologies related to disaster prevention and mitigation, infrastructure maintenance and energy use. Its theme of “social resilience” refers to the ability to reduce disaster damage and recover promptly afterward. “Triple-Free Laundry” filters water after washing through a proprietary filter so it can be used repeatedly. It can be installed where water supply and drainage facilities are unavailable and is intended for use in evacuation shelters and areas with limited water resources. “Instant 5G Network” is a prototype that fits a base station and core equipment into a carrying case. By connecting with satellite communications, it can provide communications at disaster sites and elsewhere.

In disaster prevention DX using familiar appliances, the company will show how appliance data can detect local abnormalities, convey disaster information by voice and display evacuation destinations on televisions. It will also exhibit a water-pipe leak detection system, a flow-type zinc-air battery, a satellite communications terminal under development and space-based solar power generation, explaining each technology’s features and uses in presentations.

Kyodo

Kyodo: A Game Experience Using a Parallel-Viewing Tablet That Makes a Nearby Screen Feel Distant

Kyodo and the Esports High School will present an experiential booth called the “Eye-Resting Game Center.” In a space designed to resemble a futuristic arcade, visitors can play games using the “MYOFREE” tablet. According to the company, MYOFREE combines dedicated glasses and proprietary image-generation technology to create a state of parallel viewing similar to looking into the distance. While users look at a screen about 40 cm away, their gaze is said to resemble looking at a point about 5 m away. Visitors are also scheduled to have an opportunity to play against active esports player youxme during the exhibition. In addition to game training, the Esports High School offers classes on subjects such as eye care. The exhibit lets visitors experience differences in how they look at a screen while playing games.
Note: MYOFREE and its dedicated glasses are not medical devices. The booth name “Eye-Resting” does not indicate a medical effect or benefit.
