Hilton Takayama Resort Reopens Under the Hilton Brand on September 14 Through JR Central Group–Hilton Partnership
JR Tokai Hotels Co., Ltd. and Hilton partnered to reopen Hilton Takayama Resort under the Hilton brand on September 14, 2026.

Joseph Khairallah, area vice president and head of Japan, Korea and Micronesia at Hilton: “We are honored to open Hilton Takayama Resort, our first hotel in Gifu Prefecture, through our partnership with JR Central. Together with the recently opened Conrad Nagoya, this opening demonstrates Hilton’s continued growth in the Tokai region. By drawing on the customer-attracting power of Hilton Honors, our guest loyalty program with more than 260 million members, we hope to introduce more guests to Hida Takayama’s natural beauty and culture while helping to generate tourism demand.”
Shunsuke Niwa, president and representative director of Central Japan Railway Company: “JR Central is delighted that Hilton Takayama Resort has opened. We have high expectations for the new accommodation experience that our collaboration with Hilton, a global hotel brand, will bring to guests in Takayama, a place of great importance to the JR Central Group. Takayama is one of Japan’s leading tourist destinations, with abundant nature, history, culture and food. We hope the hotel will become a place where visitors from Japan and abroad connect with the local community, helping to share Takayama’s attractions and further develop tourism. The JR Central Group will continue working with local communities to enhance the appeal of the areas along its routes and support regional development.”

A Design Combining Hida Crafts and Contemporary Style
The hotel’s design reflects the region’s history and culture. Its renovation concept, “Art of Mountain Folk,” expresses the beauty of Hida Takayama and the Alpine landscape throughout the property. The lobby was designed around the theme of the Takayama Festival. Its main motifs are the festival’s ornate floats and handheld fireworks rising into the night sky, with their colors, energy and forms reinterpreted in a contemporary style.
The hotel has 283 rooms across 10 types, including five suites. The main room types are 35-square-meter guest rooms and 46-square-meter deluxe rooms. It began operating with 91 rooms when it opened on September 14, 2026, and plans to make more rooms available as renovations progress. All rooms are scheduled to be available in spring 2027.

Each room includes details inspired by the Northern Alps, Takayama’s traditional events and local craftsmanship. Accent fabric takes its motif from Hida sashiko embroidery, while Hida furniture retained from the hotel’s original opening creates the warmth of a mountain lodge. The suites follow a “NEO MINGEI” concept, expressing the beauty of folk crafts through furniture and artwork. They are also suited to executive stays on incentive trips.

Banquet Rooms for Different Group Sizes and Uses
The third and fourth floors contain several banquet halls and meeting rooms.
The largest is Kagura, a 500-square-meter banquet hall on the third floor. It seats up to 200 for a formal banquet and can accommodate more guests for a standing reception or theater-style event. The room can be divided into three sections, allowing its layout to be changed freely according to the program and number of participants. On the fourth floor, the 280-square-meter Ho-oh seats 100 for a formal banquet and is suited to midsize seminars and parties. Takayama’s natural surroundings could also provide a setting for focused discussions.
Venue | Floor | Area | Capacity for a formal banquet
Kagura | 3rd | 500 square meters | 200
Ho-oh | 4th | 280 square meters | 100

Four Dining Venues Serving Local Ingredients With Northern Alps Views
The hotel has four dining venues serving selected local ingredients from Takayama.

Dining Room VISTAS looks out onto the Northern Alps through large windows. It has 156 seats and serves dishes featuring ingredients from Hida Takayama as a varied buffet or French courses. Koichi Uesugi, the executive chef for Western cuisine, has set “NATURE” and “FUN” as the concepts for a dining experience intended to connect Hida Takayama with the wider world.

Japanese Restaurant WAKI has 152 seats. Under Japanese cuisine executive chef Teruyoshi Takeda, its dishes express the produce of the mountains and the sea around a theme of Gifu’s clear rivers. The calm interior, inspired by the gentle flow of the Miyagawa River, also includes a local sake bar where guests can deepen business relationships over selected local labels.

For smaller executive dinners, the 14-seat Teppanyaki GAKU offers another option. Chefs prepare ingredients including top-grade A5 Hida beef in front of guests. The experience of watching them cook is presented as a high level of hospitality for honored guests. The restaurant also proposes pairings with an original hotel white wine developed in collaboration with a local winery.

At the 62-seat Lounge & Bar SCENERY, guests can have coffee or afternoon tea in the daylight. In the evening, the bar serves distinctive cocktails including a gin and tonic made with Hida sansho pepper and a Frozen Hida Colada.

New Executive Lounge on the Fourth Floor
The new fourth-floor executive lounge features a design inspired by tsugite, a traditional joining technique. Guests staying in executive rooms or suites and Diamond members of the loyalty program can use the lounge. It offers a dedicated counter for guest services, breakfast and evening cocktails.

Indoor and Outdoor Natural Hot Springs With Open-Air Baths and Saunas
Ten types of open-air baths, including an infinity bath, and two types of indoor baths are available at Tenbo no Yu Onsen Terrace. Guests can experience the changing seasons against a backdrop of the Northern Alps. Four private hot-spring rooms can also be reserved. A fitness center with modern equipment, available 24 hours a day, along with karaoke rooms and other recreational facilities, can support team building between or after meetings.

The first floor also has a 24-hour fitness center for hotel guests, a gift shop called “and T” selling products including Hilton Takayama Resort’s original sake and curry, a children’s corner and karaoke rooms.
